Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) was formed in 1976 as a not for profit organisation to provide design advice to architects / construction companies regarding the installation of telecommunications systems into commercial premises in North America and Canada.
Since that time BICSI has evolved into a highly respected and truly international body, represented in many countries and with a global membership in excess of 26,000.
Today BICSI is not just responsible for advising about the information transport systems industry, it is in many instances, defining how the industry moves forward. BICSI is responsible for both ensuring that standards developed by other bodies such as ISO and TIA are applied, and developing their own standards which are being widely adopted by other standards organisations.
Qualitas are active members of BICSI and have representation on several committees both in Europe and the USA.
The RCDD Programme
The Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) designation is widely respected around the world and is one of a few globally recognised accreditations within our industry.
The RCDD is the backbone of the BICSI education programme and is the building block for all professionals within the information transport systems industry. The RCDD programme ensures that any individual holding the designation has a proven and tested understanding of all the fundamentals of IT infrastructure implementation.
Once the RCDD has been achieved, then specialist areas can be developed to include Network Transport System specialist, Out Side Plant specialist and Wireless Design specialist. All these specialities are intended to ensure that anyone working in one of these specialised areas of the information transport system has the requisite knowledge and skill to provide the level of service expected by a BICSI accredited designer.
All of the BICSI accreditations must be maintained by ongoing and continuous education within the specialist field. All training / education is recorded and monitored by BICSI to ensure that any individual promoting one or more of the accreditations is up to date with their learning requirements and therefore ensuring that all knowledge is current.
BICSI has also developed an Installation programme to provide training for installation engineers at all levels. This programme has been widely accepted and the end result of using a BICSI accredited designer together with BICSI trained installation team will be an information transport system installation which is both standards compliant and correctly installed. Qualitas use RCDD qualified designers to ensure that their designs move with Global Standards.
