Local government - Large County Council main computing facility.
The project brief was to create a new working environment for a major computer department within County Hall. This was to include a dedicated computer room, operator's room, print room and a SAN/PBX room. The area had also to be configured to provide a substantial amount of storage space for the countywide IT distribution facility.
The project was to be undertaken within a live computer room and disruption to services was to be kept to an absolute minimum.
The existing space had not seen any major refurbishment since the installation of the original mainframe system in the early 1980's. Many of the facilities were outdated and showed signs of wear and tear after many years of moves and changes.
The original layout was cluttered and showing signs of age
The scope of works included the replacement of all floor tiles, removal of old ceiling and replacement of ceiling grid and tiles, building of partitions to segregate functions, relocation of all telecommunications services, reconfiguring all system locations within new areas, total replacement of air conditioning, rewiring of all electrical services within the area, installation of environmental monitoring systems and upgrading physical security to the new computer suite.
The project took 9 months to complete and was conducted with minimal disruption to end-users.
