There are many standards that apply to the data centre design and infrastructure installation industries and cover everything from the conduit size to be used to install a given number of cables in, to the colour of the label to be applied at the outlet or patch panel.

More importantly, there are standards relating to life safety which must be applied to every installation. Many of these standards vary from country to country and careful attention should be paid to ensure that the local rules are applied.

New standards are emerging all the time as technology advances and application requirements change the way technology is deployed.

Listed are some of the standards that are currently relevant to the infrastructure installation and Data Centre design industries. As new standards emerge we will update this list to always show the latest ratified standard. In our What's New section we will outline any new or evolving standards that should be closely watched, as they will effect how we work in the future.

Some of the current ANSI/TIA/EIA and British Standards which apply within data centres:

  • ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.1 - Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard, Part 1: General Requirements
